These are experiments I have done on a previous drawing. The first picture on the left I used watercolours to colour in the Elephant and for the background. I like the effect its a nice wash over the drawing, and the sandy brown background creates a nice texture to it. The watercolour idea was very much inspired by Babette Cole who does most of her editing and typography in her stories using watercolours which creates an awesome effect and isn't so reliant on computer generated styles.
The second piece I done was using felt pens shown on the right, I'm not so fond on this style I think it looks a bit uncreative and simple. With watercolours shown above you can create many different shades and it is very much dependent on how much water you use and the force you put into the brush. Whereas with felts I feel what you can do with them is very restricted and it looks abit plain. On the other hand, simplicity can create success if its done well and children are familiar with felt pens and could be more attractive to look at than perhaps water colours or computer generated colouring.
These are other experiments I have done, on the top left i created a collage made out of newspaper, on the top right i used afew inks to get the colours i wanted, bottom left I used chalk pastils which was quite fun and on the bottom right I used acrylic paints which I havent used in ages so its pretty bad but was enjoyable to do. The elephant below I created using a biro.
